Job Title: Purchasing Director

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Position Overview:

The Purchasing Director is responsible for developing and executing strategic procurement initiatives that ensure the organization consistently sources high-quality ingredients, equipment, and supplies.

This role focuses on vendor relationships, cost optimization, inventory oversight, and compliance with food safety and sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies that align with operational goals and company culture.
  • Source, negotiate, and build strong partnerships with food, beverage, and supply vendors.
  • Establish and document purchasing procedures to ensure consistency, cost control, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain a comprehensive product specification program and ensure current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are properly distributed.
  • Regularly evaluate supplier performance to ensure reliability, service quality, and value.
  • Foster direct relationships with manufacturers to improve pricing, consistency, and product quality.
  • Conduct routine audits of inventory, purchasing practices, and compliance standards.
  • Manage competitive bidding processes to ensure cost-effective procurement.
  • Develop and execute contingency plans to minimize supply chain disruptions.
  • Lead waste reduction and sustainability initiatives across all purchasing operations.
  • Conduct Actual vs. Theoretical (AvT) cost analysis to improve profitability and efficiency.
  • Provide inventory training and product knowledge support to restaurant teams.
  • Leverage technology to enhance purchasing operations, reporting, and analytics.
  • Maintain accurate records for audits, supplier agreements, and food safety certifications.
  • Stay informed on market trends, regulations, and emerging supplier opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, culinary, and finance teams to anticipate and address purchasing needs.
  • Communicate effectively across departments to identify and act on cost-saving opportunities.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned to support company goals.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced negotiation, budgeting, and inventory management skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and restaurant inventory or procurement software.
  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with integrity and discretion.
  • Demonstrated success in a fast-paced, multi-unit restaurant environment.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and cultural alignment with company values.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in restaurant purchasing, supply chain management, or procurement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based role with periodic visits to restaurant locations.
  • Prolonged periods of computer-based work.
  • Must be available to respond promptly to operational needs.
  • Occasional extended hours may be required to meet business objectives.
